Insurance Times Awards Silver 2019

InterEurope UK is located in the insurance litigation hub of Manchester, in close proximity to the famous Manchester United football ground. The UK branch has recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary. Currently we have an experienced, multi-disciplinary team of 14 claims specialists, 7 of which are qualified lawyers, led by an Operations Director with over 15 years of industry experience.

Insurers operating in the UK legal market are often surprised by the cost of settling claims and the lack of clear advice they receive from their cooperation partners (loss adjusters). The general impression is that claimants inflate their claims and the loss adjusters are not equipped to challenge this.

It is our stated aim at InterEurope UK to not only optimise claims expenditure for the client but also to enhance transparency and understanding of the UK legal system. We provide clear, structured reports which deliver accurate reserves and an explanation of the legal system to allow them to make informed decisions.

We have adopted a strategic approach to the UK legal market and have identified six key areas which are of concern to foreign insurers:

  • Liability
  • Whiplash
  • High value claims
  • Credit Hire
  • Fraud
  • Solicitors costs (internal and external)

The vast majority of our instructions are Green Card claims. Through a centralised quality- and IT- management, we are able to ensure that these claims are dealt with on an expedient and uniform basis. Our goal is to settle the claims efficiently and cost effectively while at the same time ensuring that the client is informed of any developments in a timely manner, offering explanations and solutions for any challenges encountered.

We also have the legal expertise to deal with complex, high value claims. In our UK branch portfolio, only 4% of all instructions are high value claims (the vast majority of these also being fourth directive claims), but these necessitate a disproportionate 31% of all pay-outs. The magnitude of the sums involved and the heightened awareness of insurer clients with regards to these claims make it essential that you have a competent partner to advise you. Our fully qualified in-house lawyers will identify these claims and develop a strategy from the outset. They will formulate and communicate our legal strategy, advising on applicable law and explaining the differences between your legal system and the UK legal system. They will at all times ensure that the reserves are accurate, anticipating claims for heads of loss such as loss of earnings, care and solicitors costs. They will do so before they are presented by the claimant to avoid reserves increasing exponentially once proceedings are issued, as is often the case with our competitors. We have in-house legal experts in high value, fraud and solicitors costs and the entire legal service is provided free of charge to our clients.

Whereas our competitors will instruct external solicitors for complex matters, we deal with these matters in house and as only 2% of our claims fully litigate, you will not incur own solicitors costs in 98% of all cases.

As a foreign insurer operating in the UK, it is our conviction that your cooperation partner needs to have the following qualities which are essential to success in the UK market:

  1. Legal expertise and strategic competence.
  2. A proven track record of success.
  3. Effective communication with the client in English, French, German, Spanish, Russian and Polish.
  4. Robust defence of the client’s interest.
  5. A central quality management which allows for expansion and scalability.
  6. Financial security and the ability to pre-finance payments.
  7. A future proof IT system.

We believe the UK branch demonstrate the above qualities and that we are the strongest claims handling organisation in the UK.
